Restaurant closings continue to be part of the Westchester dining landscape. The latest include an organic Chinese spot, a steakhouse, a beloved pizzeria and a general store/tea shop. All except the pizzeria had been open less than four years. The details are below.

Chigo, known for its organic Chinese food, has closed in Hawthorne. Photographed May 24, 2023

CHIGO, Hawthorne

Open since June 2020, this Chinese restaurant, which started out with a takeout/pickup model, was built around fresh, local and organic food, including hormone-free chicken, pasture-raised pork, grass-fed beef, wild-caught fish, cage-free chicken eggs, Chinatown noodles and organic vegetables, all with no MSG. Efforts to reach the owners were unsuccessful, but the last Facebook post from them was January 22. A "For Rent" sign is now posted outside their Saw Mill River Road address.

Raceway Pizza, Yonkers

This pizzeria, in business since 1971, has closed. Owner Luigi Petrozza, who was known for his signature greeting of "Raceway Ah-Pizz," announced the news on Facebook May 24, citing his retirement. "After 52 years, a lot of good things have to come to an end," he posted in a video as he did a reflective walk through the eatery. "It's amazing how time flies.

"Working here with my mom and dad for many, many years…it's going to be sad, but it's time for me to just let go and do what I have to do now ... just take care of myself and retire and have fun, play a little golf, go to the beach and relax." He thanked his patrons for the memories and the great times.

Sea Flame Steakhouse, Scarsdale

The word on Facebook is that the 90-seat restaurant is closed for renovations, but co-owner Peter Bicaj, who now runs Westchester Meat Market in Eastchester, said the steakhouse is permanently closed. He doesn't, however, rule out a return in some form, so stay tuned. The restaurant, on White Plains Road, had been open since August 2019 and prided itself on high-grade cuts of meat, dry-aged in-house.

Croton Corners/Hudson Tea Co., Croton-on-Hudson

This combination general store/tea shop, which opened in August 2021, will close at the end of June. Co-owner Tessa Tokke announced her news on the Westchester Foodies Facebook page, saying how much she'll miss chatting with customers. The shop, owned and operated by Tokke, her brother-in-law Graydon and father-in-law Hans, was an idea they came up with amid the pandemic. The goal, she explained, was to create a family-oriented space for the community — as well as for kids to hang out. There was a nostalgic component to it complete with arcade games and an old fashioned soda pop shop with snow cones, sodas, and floats including New York egg creams. Last March, Tokke added the tea shop component. 124 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson; 914-810-7800, crotoncorners.com

Tessa Tokke makes an egg cream behind the counter at Croton Corners, a combination general store, old school soda shop arcade and tea shop. The store, at the intersection of Grand Street and Old Post Road in Croton, will close at the end of June.
