A man was shot to death during an attempted burglary Sunday morning in West Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The attempted break-in and shooting happened shortly after 7 a.m. near the 5400 block of Southwest 18th Street. Paramedics took the 49-year-old man to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the man who died or the man who shot him. The name of the man who died is withheld under Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved constitutional amendment that allows victims of crime to protect their identifying information from the public.
Homicide detectives are investigating, and the shooter is cooperating, the Sheriff’s Office said. The State Attorney’s Office will determine whether to file charges.
Authorities did not release additional information Monday afternoon.
