After dental surgery, spay and grooming, Reese (above), one of the dogs seized in an animal hoarding case, has been adopted.

West Palm Beach’s Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League jumped into action, after more than 200 dogs are rescued from a dire hoarding situation.

It happened about 3½ hours north in Putnam County.

Police there say an elderly owner fed the dogs but was unable to properly care for them. Due to the lack of spaying and neutering, the dogs reproduced at a rate, that led to a crisis.

Twenty-two of those dogs were picked up by Peggy Adams last month and rushed back for urgent medical care.

The animals, matted, dirty and visibly shaken, were lovingly cared for by staff and volunteers. Many slept in clean, safe beds for the first time in their lives.

Some of the rescues were geriatrics, requiring a lot of medical attention, including dental surgeries after years of neglect. Ten puppies rescued were infested with parasites and needed critical care due to their age and condition.

Peggy Adams said each animal was vaccinated, tested for disease ,and spayed or neutered. And of course, they are getting lots of love, comfort and treats.

In addition to loving homes, Peggy Adams is asking for donations to care for these dogs, whose medical costs are in the tens of thousands.
