Five people can say they survived a plane crash after it went down near Andros Island in the Bahamas.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at around 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, a single-engine Piper PA-32 crashed in the Atlantic Ocean northwest of San Andros Airport in the Bahamas.
Five people were on the plane, three passengers and two pilots, who were en route to the Palm Beach International Airport, according to the FAA.
According to the Volunteer Pilot Group (VPG), the two pilots were operating a volunteer flight arranged by VPG and executed a successful emergency water landing after the aircraft lost power.
VPG says, the pilots and the passengers were picked up unharmed by a local fishing boat and were returned to Andros.
"We expect that all five will be back in Florida on Friday. VPG is very pleased that all involved are safe and sound and we appreciate the assistance rendered to our friends by the locals as well as by Bahamian and US Government agencies," the Volunteer Pilot Group said.
