A single car and a fully-loaded gasoline tanker truck crashed while traveling westbound on Interstate 595 around 9 a.m. Monday morning.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes remain closed for several hours due to the crash while officials work to transfer 9,000 gallons of gasoline onto a second semi-tractor trailer, according to a Florid Highway Patrol (FHP) press release.

About 20 gallons of fuel leaked before before it was secured.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units and Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue teams helped prevent further incidents and will remain in the area until traffic can be restored.

The eastbound traffic is being rerouted to Florida's Turnpike and Interstate 95 while westbound on I-595 will be closed at the U.S. 1 and Port Everglades exits. Westbound traffic is being diverted to I-95 south.

Access to the airport and Port Everglades are also affected by the crash.

After the sideswipe collision, the tanker truck swerved onto the grass median before flipping onto its right side. Neither driver was injured in the crash, per FHP.
