Winning pitcher Claire Hamel scattered seven hits and fanned eight to lead sixth-seeded Ridgewood to a 3-1 upset over third-seeded West Orange in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 playoffs in West Orange.
Ridgewood scored twice in the top of the first and extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Nora Emmanuel singled, walked twice and scored twice and Quinn McSherry had an RBI single.
Ridgewood improved to 13-11 and will face second-seeded Livingston in the semifinals.
West Orange (17-5) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to complete the comeback.
Bergen Tech 3, Morristown 2
Top-seeded Bergen Tech pushed a run across in the bottom of the 10th inning to escape with a thrilling win over ninth-seeded Morristown in Hackensack.
Bergen Tech improved to 20-4 and will host fourth-seeded Columbia in the semifinals
Alexandra Barrett went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Morristown (14-11).
Livingston 6, Fair Lawn 0
Sophia Mount tossed a three-hitter and struck out 11 to lift second-seeded Livingston, No. 20 in the NJ.com Top 20, to a shutout over seventh-seeded Fair Lawn in Livingston.
Livingston, the two-time defending sectional champions, reached the semifinals for the third year in a row and will host sixth-seeded Ridgewood.
Sophie Rothfeld had three hits and a run and Maddie Rothfeld went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Livingston (17-6).
Kendall McNamara, Izzy Villegas and Katelyn Welch had hits for Fair Lawn (14-11).
