INDIANAPOLIS — A key member of last year’s Purdue men’s basketball team is transferring out of West Lafayette.

According to a post on Instagram , senior forward Mason Gillis has committed to play at Duke next year. Gillis was the Big Ten Conference Sixth Man of the Year in 2024.

The New Castle, Indiana, native averaged 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds across the 39 games he played in 2023-24. Gillis played nearly 22 minutes a contest last season.

Gillis’ career per game averages are 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He’s spent all five years of his collegiate career at Purdue, counting a redshirt season in 2019-20.

Fresh off Purdue’s trip to the national championship game in 2023-24, Gillis joins a Blue Devil squad that went 27-9 overall and 15-3 in ACC play last year. Fourth-seeded Duke dropped out of the 2023-24 NCAA Tournament in the Elite 8 after losing to 11th-seeded North Carolina State, 76-64.

Gillis will help Duke fill gaps created by sophomore center Kyle Filipowski’s departure. The 7-footer declared for the NBA Draft on April 12.

Filipowski led the Blue Devils in points (16.4), rebounds (8.3), steals (1.1) and blocks (1.5) per game last season.
