Parties in the middle of the day, pickup trucks hauling karts and drivers racing around the track north of campus. You can feel it all over Purdue– the “greatest spectacle in college racing” is almost here.

The 67th-annual Purdue Grand Prix will be held at the Purdue Grand Prix Track on Saturday. This tradition will see 27 of the best kart drivers from residence halls, fraternities and sororities, private teams and even the Boiler Catholics, race in a 160-lap event.

Gates will open to spectators at 10 a.m., with sprint races planned for noon and the actual race set to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Racing for Kappa Sigma, Aidan Fox is the fastest driver who will race Saturday. During last week’s qualifications race, the freshman in finance broke the record for the fastest lap time in Purdue Grand Prix history with 25.011 seconds around the track. But on his very next lap around, Fox broke his own record with 24.987 seconds, securing his spot as an obvious pick to be Saturday’s champion.

Tailing right behind Fox, Jacob Peddycord qualified with 25.177 seconds. The senior driver for First Street Motorsports, a division of the University Residences team, won his first ever Grand Prix in 2021 by seven laps, but has been unable to secure another victory since.

Tickets are available on the Grand Prix Foundation’s website for $7 per Purdue student and $10 for everyone else.
