WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — How 25-year-old Megan Johnson got to Sagamore Parkway east of Soldiers Home Road from her abandoned car at the Pay Less Super Market gas pumps remains a mystery.

Johnson, who is from Veedersburg, was running from the north side of the four-lane highway to the southside about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a car in the eastbound lanes, West Lafayette police Lt. Jon Eager said.

Why Johnson was naked and why she abandoned her car at the gas pumps remain unknown, Eager said.

Police continue to speak with people who might have insight into why Johnson was in West Lafayette, as well as review video of the areas where she might have been before the accident, Eager said.

Johnson, who recently was living in Louisville, Kentucky, died from multiple blunt force injuries from the collision with the eastbound car, Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said of the preliminary autopsy findings. The manner of death is pending toxicology reports, which take about six weeks to get back test results.

Johnson came back to Indiana to visit family and friends, Costello said.

Eager said Johnson was moving back to the Veedersburg area, and they do not yet know why she was in West Lafayette — a distance of roughly 38 miles, according to a Google search.
