Grand opening, grand closing.

Less than five minutes after Outkick's Dan Dakich reported Zach Edey was entering the transfer portal, the Purdue center came out to refute the report.

Edey, who was The Sporting News' Player of the Year this season after scoring 22.3 points per game and pulling in 12.9 rebounds per game, saw his season end in gut-wrenching fashion when No. 1 Purdue became the second team to ever lose to a No. 16 seed, Fairleigh Dickinson.

The center had a sharp reply to Dakich, who said "his people" said Edey was in the portal before bemoaning NIL and the portal. "My sources are telling me this is false," Edey, who just finished his junior year, replied.

What it appears happened is that the Twitter account @pelsyear changed its account to a faux Jeff Borzello account and said Edey has entered the portal. Dakich saw that and attributed it to his "people." The @pelsyear account was promptly suspended.

Dakich went on to try to tweet through it, and insisted it was just a prank.

There are three things to take away from this five-minute tale: Zach Edey is not transferring. Always check the handle. And some reporters' "people" are actually just other people from Twitter.

Despite Purdue's disappointing finish this year, the Boilermakers look like they're going to have their star back next year as they try to run it back. And we can chalk up one dunk for the 2023 offseason.
