Police in West Hartford are looking for the public’s help finding the driver involved in a December fatal hit-and-run, police said.

Eugenia Yurovsky, 89, was killed on Dec. 20 when she was struck by a vehicle while walking in the area of Boulevard and Whiting Lane in West Hartford, according to the West Hartford Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene and investigators are still working to identify them, police said.

Yurovsky was struck by a light-colored vehicle that police say might have been similar to a 2010-2015 GMC style, police said.

Investigators believe the vehicle had damage to the right driver’s side near the grille and bumper, police said.

A week of tragedy in West Hartford in December pushed the town’s motor vehicle-related fatalities to seven in 2022 — matching the deadliest year for motorists, passengers and pedestrians recorded in the last three decades.

In 2022, West Hartford recorded more than 1,400 crashes involving more than 2,900 vehicles, according to the Connecticut Crash Data Repository. Of these collisions, 442 resulted in injuries, and approximately 23 involved pedestrians or bicyclists.

Between 1995 and 2021, the average number of motor vehicle-related fatalities in West Hartford hovered just above two deaths each year. But so far, in 2022, the town has witnessed seven. The last time fatalities were this high was in 2006. Pedestrian deaths in West Hartford this year are up to three, a number not seen since 2003.
