WEST FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay baseball team concluded its season on Saturday afternoon at Young Field in West Fargo as Wahpteon defeated Jamestown, 6-3, in the 3rd place game at the Class A State Tournament.

A four-run fourth inning helped the Huskies claim third place in the state tournament. Wahpeton increased its lead to 6-0 going into the sixth before Jamestown scratched across two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Ethan Gall led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on an error that allowed Mason Lunzman to reach first.

With runners at the corners, Lunzman stole second and Gall scored on an overthrow into center field. Max Fronk would drive in Lunzman three pitches later, bringing the Blue Jays within four runs.

Jamestown would get one more run in the seventh as Lunzman drew a bases-loaded walk, making it 6-3. The Jays would leave the bases loaded in the seventh though as the game ended on a strikeout.

Jamestown finishes its season at 18-6 overall. Senior Mason Lunzman was named the 2023 NDHSCA POWERade Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year following the game. Lunzman led Jamestown to the state tournament with a shoutout win over Dickinson and combined to throw a no-hitter with Jackson Walters in the quarterfinals of this year’s state tournament.
