Dowling Catholic softball is a family business in 2023
In 2023, the Dowling Catholic softball team is led by new head coach, Brent Parrott. Parrott, a staple in the central Iowa softball community, was looking to build an elite staff.
"You're always trying to look for assistants that you can count on that are trustworthy and know the game," Parrott said.
His search did not take him far. His search led him to two of his own. He hired Anna and Madi Parrott to join his staff; two of his daughters.
Madi has coached with her dad before, but Anna is joining the family business for the first time.
"I am learning from both of them which is really awesome because they are both really good at their jobs," Anna said.
It's a family that lives and breathes softball and while it is fathers and daughters off the field, on it he's the boss and what he says goes.
"They have their opinions. I have my opinions," Brent said. "We hash things over, and then we go with my opinion."
That answer was met with laughter from both Madi and Anna who simply responded by saying, "If that's what he wants to believe then yes."
For most coaches, the grind of the schedule can keep them away from family for chunks of time. For this trio, they don't miss a moment. They are making memories that'll last a lifetime.
"I saw my dad do the worm one time, so that was very interesting," Madi said.
It should be a special softball season for Brent Parrott, every day is bring your daughter to work day.
