Police from North Caldwell and Cedar Grove Team up to Arrest Two Suspects After Car Burglary Attempts
NORTH CALDWELL, NJ -- Cedar Grove police took two suspects into custody and then turned them over to North Caldwell police for charges Monday night after two attempted motor vehicle burglaries. At 8:50 p.m. Monday, the North Caldwell Police Department notified Cedar Grove police that two suspects had attempted motor vehicle burglaries in North Caldwell before escaping on foot into the Park Ridge Estates in Cedar Grove. Assisted by state police, the Essex County Sheriff's Office, and the North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Essex Fells, Verona and Fairfield police departments, Cedar Grove police set up a perimeter. After a two-hour search, Cedar Grove police located the suspects, who were attempting to escape in an Uber. They ended up in the custody of the North Caldwell Police Department.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ -- The Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education at its meeting on Monday unanimously passed the 2023-2024 tentative budget, which will increase taxes by 4.5% from the current school budget. The proposed budget will now be submitted for approval by the Essex County Superintendent of Schools. The amount of taxes to be raised will be $53,047,411, which includes $51,065,582 for the general fund and an additional $1,981,829 towards debt service. The district anticipates revenues to equal $8,342,356 bringing the total amount of the budget to $61,389,767. Newark Woman Gets 28 Years For Deadly Drive-By Shooting
A 31-year-old woman from Newark who killed a man and wounded another in a drive-by shooting has been sentenced to 28 years in New Jersey State Prison. Chantal Mitchell, who had two prior drug-dealing convictions, was sentenced on Friday, March 17 for killing Deitrick Mitchell, 21, of Newark, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens.
Three Caldwell Football Players Sign College Letters of Intent
WEST CALDWELL, NJ -- Three members of the state champion Caldwell football team signed letters of intent on Friday to attend colleges where they will continue their gridiron careers. Quarterback Luke Kurzum signed with Hamilton College, and lineman Thomas Cader and two-way back Harry Boland signed with Monmouth University. Kurzum passed for 1,707 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions last fall, when Caldwell went 13-0 and won the NJSIAA Group 2 state championship. Kurzum finished with 4,546 career passing yards and 47 TD passes. Cader anchored the Chiefs' offensive line and also played on the defensive line. Boland finished with 56 career touchdowns, serving as a dominant force as a runner, receiver, defensive back and return man.

Woman, 32, stabbed in unprovoked attack in NYC: cops
A 32-year-old woman was stabbed in an unprovoked attack in East Harlem Tuesday night, authorities said. The male assailant, an apparent stranger, approached the victim outside a laundromat on Lexington Avenue near East 102nd Street around 8:15 p.m. and suddenly jabbed her in the right shoulder with an “unknown object,” police said. Police do not believe he said anything during the assault. The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
