The Green River Lady Pirates traveled to Richfield and the Sevier Valley Center to take part in the 1A State Basketball Championships. On Wednesday day they would face the No.2 Wendover Wildcats. Wendover used a defensive first half to get the advantage and pushed their way through the second half to hand Green River a 57-33 loss.

The Lady Pirates punched their ticket to Richfield by taking care of Water Canyon in Green River last Saturday, 54-26. Green River ended the regular season with an overall mark of 8-16 with a 4-4 Region 23 mark, earning them the No. 15 in the RPI.

Green River came out in the first half putting 10 points on the board, Wendover countered with 10 points in the first quarter alone, and took a 23-10 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Lady Pirates found their stroke but Wendover proved just too much taking the contest 57-33, and moving on in the tournament.

Abigail Erwin continued her stellar season for the Lady Pirates, putting up 27 points with 22 rebounds. Jenilee Keener added seven with six boards and Rosa Barragan added three with four boards.

With the loss, Green River falls into the consolation round to face Bryce Valley.

Bryce Valley is No. 10 in the RPI with a 14-8 overall mark. The two teams met up back in December with the Lady Pirates on the wrong end of a 53-30 score.

Game time is set for 4 p.m. Thursday.
