SUMNER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities in Kansas, Oklahoma and the FBI continue their investigation of a fatal officer-involved shooting.

Just after 12:30p.m. Friday, officers responded to the robbery at Impact Bank, 206 East Harvey in Wellington, according to a media release.

Bank officials reported a man entered the bank wearing a dark jacket with light-colored pants and a surgical mask. He handed a note to a bank employee demanding money. The suspect left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

Bank employees were able to obtain a description of the suspect’s vehicle and shared it with law enforcement. The Kansas Turnpike Authority notified the Oklahoma Highway Patrol that the suspect was southbound on Interstate 35.

A Port of Entry officer saw a vehicle enter Oklahoma that matched the description of the robbery suspect’s vehicle.

Oklahoma State Troopers began a pursuit and gunfire was exchanged. The pursuit ended when the suspect fled his vehicle on foot in a wooded area off Interstate 35 and Highway 412. When he attempted to fire at troopers again, he was shot and killed. No troopers were injured.

The OHP also reported the bomb squad was called to the scene because the suspect at one point claimed to have a bomb in his vehicle.  Authorities have not released his name.
