Minneapolis residents and public safety leaders gathered Tuesday night to raise the alarm about a recent string of violent incidents downtown.

This comes just days after a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 16-year old and hours after a shooting that left a teen boy injured in that same area.

"We are public servants, we must be accountable to community," said Director of the City's Civil Rights Department Michelle Phillips,

Phillips and other leaders including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O'Hara say they will continue to create new strategies to combat violent crime involving youth.

Community advocate Lisa Clemons from A Mothers Love told WCCO-TV it's time to put a stop to these types of incidents.

"We need to not be burying our children and visiting them in prisons and in hospitals," Clemons said.

City leaders say they are currently working to find new ways to prevent violent crime involving minors.

Raising alarms, new plans… How about do your damn job! Parents complaining their children aren’t safe, do those parents even know where their children are. Stolen cars, assaults, guns in the hands of teenagers, breaking in your homes, let’s have a conversation about who these teenagers are. Maybe code-switching has them confused. 🤔
