SHINNSTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Just hours after crews were called to a working fire at the Sunset Ellis Restaurant in Shinnston, the restaurant announced that the building is a total loss.

According to a GoFundMe posted to the restaurant’s social media page, the building was labeled as a total loss and “not much will be savable.” The campaign was set up by Brittany Hurst, the daughter of owners Rocky and Patty Morgan who re-opened the restaurant in Feb. 2023 after Rocky “quit the mines.”

The GoFundMe has a goal of $15,000 and Hurst said that while she hasn’t spoken to Rocky, “the restaurant will already be in the works for reopening.” She said that she’s reaching out to “the community, the state of WV, to anyone to help my parents out!”

No injuries were reported in the fire, and Hurst issued her thanks to all of the firefighters who came out Monday night.
