WAYNE, NJ — One of the largest music and food truck festivals to benefit homeless veterans, VetFest is coming to Dave Waks Memorial Park on Barbour Pond Road in Wayne on Sunday, May 5. The 5th annual event is happening from Noon to 7:00 p.m. and includes six “top bands," a dozen gourmet food trucks, a beer and wine garden, as well as fun for the kids.
The event is to raise money for Community Hope for Veterans , a non-profit based in Parsippany that helps homeless veterans off the streets. They are "one of New Jersey’s leading nonprofit organizations serving homeless veterans and their families," according to their website.
Each year, the Wayne-based music festival has grown, according to MaryLou Ferreira-Pych, of Community Hope, Inc.
"Last year, over 1500 guests attended to support our homeless veteran programs," she said. "The event is kicked off by the Mayor of Wayne and other council members with a ribbon cutting, and we will have a student from Wayne Hill sing the national anthem."
This Sunday's 5th Annual Vet Fest is likely to be the biggest one yet, and Community Hope is grateful.
"Vet Fest has raised more than $100,000 for veterans with 83 cents of each dollar going directly to Community Hope’s programs and services," said Ferreira-Pych. "If you love live music and are a foodie, you are going to love Vet Fest. There will be 10 gourmet food trucks, six incredible touring bands as well as bounce houses for the kids. This is the ultimate family event."
The Discoteks are scheduled to kickoff the 2024 VetFest, beginning just after the ribbon-cutting. Five more stellar bands will follow, with 80s Revolution closing out the show in the final performance, starting around 6:00pm. Full Band and Food Truck Lineup Below...
Vet Fest is the brainchild of Richard Goldberg from Ultra Artists, an agency that represents several bands here in New Jersey and across the country. He explained that, while working in the defense industry in the past, he traveled the world and witnessed "the incredible job our men and women in the military do for us every day.”
“Ever since I had the opportunity to see them in action, and also those in hospitals who've been wounded and injured fighting for our country, I’ve done what I can to help as many vets as possible," he added.
As the owner of an agency that represents several top bands, putting together a music festival was a no-brainer.
If you are going to be in Wayne this Sunday, May 5th, helping New Jersey’s homeless veterans is as simple as buying a ticket to the festival , spreading the word to friends and family and then come enjoy a day of music, food, community and love.
