How to report social security scams

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Social security scams can be serious and cause quite the headache.

Someone who has stolen your social security number is able to open bank accounts, get a job, rent, apply for government benefits, steal your tax refund and more.

The Office of the Inspector General, or OIG, has a place to report scams that target social security.
