Miller, Gerard
Gerard “Gerry” Miller, age 75 of Waupaca, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at ThedaCare Appleton Medical Center. He was born on February 26, 1949, the son of Louis and Helen (Long) Miller. Gerry married Joyce Roesler on September 13, 1969, and they celebrated 54 years together. He proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was an active member of American Legion Post 391, Fremont chapter, assisting with brat fries and chicken barbeques. Gerry was privileged to be a participant on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight in October 2021.

America’s largest adventure race explores the Northwoods
RHINELANDER – The largest adventure race in the United States, the Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge, has competitors trekking, biking, and paddling through the pristine waterways, beautiful trails, and serene wilderness of the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The event started in 2015 and is held over Memorial Day weekend. The event is capped at 500 racers, which drew racers from 19 states last year. Every year, the course changes with recent editions headquartered in Rib Mountain, Brokaw, and Stevens Point; however, this year’s course will be taking place in the land of the iconic hodag, Rhinelander, for the first time. The adult version of a scavenger hunt not only draws hard-core racers, but the event invites newcomers with about half of the field being new adventure racers. Additionally, the family division attracts multi-generational teams, encompassing an age range from 7 to 70.

DEWEY, Wis. (WSAW) - This week marks EMS week, and emergency medical services are a part of many fire departments. In Wisconsin, they continue to face staffing shortages. According to a 2023 report from the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health, more than 40% of state EMS agencies had staffing gaps where no ambulance was available for emergency calls.
