A 27-year-old man was transported to a Bangor hospital after being found in the southbound breakdown lane of Interstate 95 in Waterville.

An initial investigation shows that a 33-year-old Hampden man struck the 27-year-old, who had been laying in front of his dump truck in the breakdown lane, at around 1:40 p.m. It is not clear what caused the collision, or why the 27-year-old was laying in front of his truck, Maine Department of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday afternoon.

The Hampden man was not injured in the collision, but the dump truck driver had received serious injuries and was transported to a hospital via LifeFlight.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Trooper Randy Hall of the Maine State Police at 207-624-7076, extension 9. An investigation is ongoing.
