Full rodeos are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

A number of area cowgirls and cowboys have one final chance to qualify for the South Dakota State High School Finals June 13-17 at Fort Pierre.

That comes this weekend at Derby Downs when the Watertown East Region High School Rodeo. Cutting and Reined Cow Horse events are scheduled for Friday starting at 1 p.m. with full rodeos on tap for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The schedule also includes registration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, 8 t0 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and 8 to 9 a.m. on Sunday. There will be mandatory contestant meeting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the grand entry at 12:15 p.m. Grand entry will follow at 12:15 p.m. A rodeo church service is set for 8 a.m. in the grandstand on Sunday.

Other rodeo events include bareback riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, bull riding, goat tying, pole bending, saddle bronc, steer wresting, team roping and tiedown calf roping.

East Region (Huron Results)

State-qualifying for area athletes opened last week with the East Region High School Rodeo at Huron.

Area event winners included Hemmingson, bareback riding; and C. Miller and Tigh Gaikowski, team roping.

Other area competitors who earned points included Moore (bareback); Adysyn and Haydyn Wiesner, Sippel, S. Johnson, Aamot (barrels); Johnson and H. Wiesner (breakaway roping); Wittnebel, Aamot, H. and A. Wiesner, and Marzahn (goats); Fliehs (girls cutting); Marzahn, Wittnebel and Sippel (pole bending) and T. Johnson, Frerichs, Faehnrich, Tripp Gaikowski, Rose, Teegan Gaikowski and S. Johnson (team roping).
