Royals battle Chargers in doubleheader

Ella Guetzkow struck out 11 batters, but the Royals fell to Dassel­ Cokato 2-1 on Thursday.

Guetzkow gave up three hits and two runs over six innings while walking two.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Dassel­ Cokato pitchers struck out 15, while The Royals sat down 11.

The Royals got on the board in the third inning after Guetzkow singled, scoring one run.

A double by Yager gave Dassel-Cokato the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth.

Quern earned the win for Dassel-Cokato. They allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 15 and walking four.

Guetzkow led the Royals with one run batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day. Paige Kosmatka, Payton Hecksel, Guetzkow, and Eleanor Rundell each collected one hit for the Royals.

Rundell stole three bases. The Royals ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. The Royals were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Mackenna Bisek made the most plays with 11.

Watertown-Mayer 5 Dassel-Cokato 12

The Royals couldn’t keep up with Dassel-Cokato and fell 12-5 on Thursday.

Dassel-Cokato opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two ground outs. Dassel-Cokato first got on the board when Putnam grounded out, scoring one run.

Dassel-Cokato added two runs in the third. Schmitz singled, making the score 4-1.

The Royals tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a single by Darby Lee, a steal of home by Paige Kosmatka, and a ground out by Mackenna Bisek.

Dassel-Cokato flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on six hits to take a 10-4 lead.

Payton Hecksel, Eleanor Rundell, and Ella Guetzkow each collected two hits for Watertown­ Mayer Varsity Royals. Kosmatka, Lee, Bisek, and Guetzkow each drove in one run for Watertown­ Mayer.
