State police: Suspects chased, shot at each other on I-84 in Waterbury

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) - A shooting incident that happened on Interstate 84 in Waterbury on Thursday remained under investigation Friday.

State police revealed that it happened on the westbound side of the highway in the area of exit 20.

Troopers said the drivers of two vehicles chased each other and someone in those vehicles shot at each other around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“While troopers were responding, troopers were updated that one of the involved vehicles had been involved in a collision on the exit 20 off ramp,” state police said in their report. “Upon arrival, it was discovered that the operator of the vehicle had fled the scene.”

State police closed the westbound side of the highway in the area of exit 19, right in the Mixmaster area, Thursday night.

Eyewitness News crews recorded video of troopers scouring the area with flashlights on Thursday night.

At the time of the closure, troopers asked drivers to seek an alternative route.

The highway has since reopened.
