A woman was killed and a man was wounded in a double shooting Tuesday night in Northeast D.C.

The shooting occurred sometime before 10:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of 49th Street, Metropolitan Police Department said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man is "conscious and breathing," officials said.

Police had shut down 49th Street between Nash and Meade Streets due to the investigation. No information was available on a possible suspect as of Tuesday night.
