A deadly shooting erupted during the burial of a 10-year-old girl that was shot and killed by a stray bullet in Washington, D.C. on Mother's Day, according to authorities.
The Prince George's County Police Department said a man was shot and killed at Washington National Cemetery in Maryland. Authorities added that a woman was also shot and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the shooting "was not directly related" to the child's family.
We believe that this was a dispute totally unrelated to what was going on with the funeral, the circumstances leading up to the funeral, the circumstances into the investigation in Washington, D.C. This was totally independent of that," police said during a media briefing at the scene.
A reporter asked why the man and woman were at the cemetery, with police saying they are still "gathering the facts."
Police also said they have someone in custody.
Authorities said shots were fired on Tuesday around 1:15 p.m. EDT.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately known.
WJLA's Sam Ford is at the scene working to learn more information.
On May 14, Arianna Davis, 10, was hit by gunfire while riding in a car with her family. The family drove to a D.C. firehouse and Arianna was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She died just days later.
