At one time, former No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg was one of the hottest stars in Major League Baseball with his overpowering fastball. But after some recent injury issues, there’s a chance he never takes the mound again for the Washington Nationals or any other team, for that matter.

According to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post, there is “increasing doubt” that Stephen Strasburg will ever be able to pitch again.

“Three people have described those complications as ‘severe nerve damage.’ As of this week, Strasburg is technically eligible to come off the 60-day injured list he was placed on ahead of Opening Day. But there’s no sign of that happening in the near future, if at all. His current plan, according to a person familiar with his thinking, is to rest and see if he can manage the nerve issues enough to make another attempt at pitching. The righty’s outlook is not promising.”

It’s a horrible update for a player that has had plenty of hype and attention since he was still in high school, and the Major League Baseball world had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

Obviously, everyone hopes the best for Strasburg as he continues to try to battle through his injuries.
