Robert Griffin III says he's in talks with Josh Harris' group in attempt to buy Commanders

Former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III has never met a headline he didn’t like. From his four seasons in Washington as a player, where he took the NFL by storm as a rookie in 2012, to throwing teammates under the bus after a game in 2014, in which he played terribly. Griffin always seems to find the headlines.

Since his time as a backup quarterback with the Baltimore Ravens ended after the 2020 season, Griffin quickly signed with ESPN as an NFL and college football analyst. A job in which he is terrific. Griffin provides excellent analysis while injecting some personality into the broadcast.

All the while, Griffin has mentioned still wanting to play, even returning to Washington. There was the tell-all book he promised about his time in Washington that quietly went away, too.

Back in November, after it was announced that owner Daniel Snyder hired Bank of America to explore potential transactions with the franchise, Griffin took to Twitter and mentioned becoming a minority owner of the Commanders.

On Tuesday, the same day Adam Schefter revealed Snyder received two legitimate bids for Washington worth $6 billion, Griffin was a guest on “The Rich Eisen Show.”

Any guess what they talked about?

Eisen broached the subject with Griffin due to his time playing in Washington.

“Well, I am gonna be honest with you, Rich, when I hear that, I have been having some really great conversations with this group led by Josh Harris,” Griffin said. “And having an opportunity to come in on that ownership group. I’m, like, head over heels excited about that process. To be a player for that team, to not have my career go the way that I wanted it to, or the way the fans wanted it to, in that city, would be a full circle type of moment to come back and try to help that team, and that organization build a winner that the fans deserve. That’s something I’m really excited about. It’s nothing that I can announce at this point. The conversations are happening, and I am really, really excited about the potential there.”

Griffin even mentioned his former buddy, Snyder.

“At the end of the day, the fans will throw a parade when Dan Snyder sells the team,” Griffin said.

It’s interesting to hear Griffin throw Snyder under the bus. From all indications, Snyder treated Griffin very well, at the expense of other players, which alienated Griffin from his teammates at the time. Who knows how that relationship ended?

Judging by many of Snyer’s relationships and friendships, it likely didn’t end well, but there is no evidence indicating otherwise. The threat of that tell-all book probably didn’t go over too well with Snyder.

Harris’ bid for the Commanders includes fellow billionaire Mitchell Rales and NBA legend Magic Johnson. It will be interesting if anyone confirms that Griffin is part of this potential ownership group or, at the very least, in talks with the group.

So, Washington fans, what do you think of Griffin’s latest headline?
