The Metropolitan Police Department is on the lookout for potential new officers.

They held a a hiring event Saturday morning where potential candidates met face to face with officers at the police academy in Southwest.
The event comes one day after MPD swore in 20 new officers, which brought the force up to nearly 3,400 officers -- 400 shy of pre-pandemic numbers.
Mayor Muriel Bowser's recently-proposed budget Includes hiring bonuses for new hires.
A spokesman for MPD said it's crucial to not only find candidates, but quality candidates.

New hires to the department will now be eligible for a $20,000 hiring bonus.
