A 17-year-old was shot and killed by a U.S. Park Police (USPP) officer Saturday morning in Northeast D.C. after he allegedly dragged a police sergeant while trying to flee the scene, officials said.
Dalaneo Martin, of Northwest, D.C., has died, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed Sunday.
Sgt. Thomas Twiname, a spokesperson with the U.S. Park Police, said during a press conference Saturday afternoon, that the incident happened in the 300 block of 36th Street NE around 8:50 a.m.
A U.S. Park Police officer and a sergeant responded to the area of 34th and Baker Street Northeast to help another USPP officer with a report of a stolen vehicle in River Terrace Park, which is a national park.

The officers on the scene tried to detain Martin, but Twiname said he fled the scene.
While trying to flee, a USPP officer was trapped inside the white SUV and was unable to get out, Twiname said, and a sergeant was also being dragged by the vehicle.
That's when the officer fired the weapon inside the car, U.S. Park Police officials said.
They said officers rendered aid immediately, but Martin was pronounced dead on the scene.
7News captured the white SUV after it crashed into a nearby home, where homeowner Antonio Gibbs received an unexpected and unwanted surprise.
"I was actually in this room cleaning it up, and then I just left to put something in the kitchen, and all of sudden I heard this boom, so I turned around and looked and I could see through this door, and all of a sudden I heard police officers, 'put your hands up, put your hands up,'" Gibbs said.
A crowd gathered as both USPP and MPD officers collect evidence at the scene.
The officer and sergeant involved in the incident were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
There is body camera footage of the incident and 7News filed a FOIA to obtain the video.
Police are still working to learn more about the details of the shooting.
