GERMANTOWN, MD – On Saturday, Montgomery County Police responded to a strong-arm carjacking at a Sunoco gas station in Germantown. The victim was forced out of his car by two juveniles who then attempted to drive away. However, the juveniles were unable to operate the vehicle due to it being a manual transmission, and fled on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the juveniles after a brief foot chase in the area. ASPEN HILL, MD – Hector Zelaya Reyes, 19, was arrested today in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in Aspen Hill. The victim, a ride-share driver, picked up Zelaya Reyes and drove him to his destination. Upon arrival, Zelaya Reyes displayed a handgun and demanded money from the driver. Detectives identified Zelaya Reyes as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant, charging him with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony. He is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

SEVERN, MD – On Sunday, at about 9:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots fired near Tomlinson Court in Severn. One juvenile and two adult victims were found inside residences on Durness Court and Monaegan Court, suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders immediately provided aid to the victims, who were then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One victim sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – On Friday, Baltimore man Alexander Barabash, 52, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in relation to submitting fraudulent Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act loan applications. Barabash fraudulently obtained over $1.2 million in CARES Act loans intended for struggling businesses. Between April 2020 and January 2021, he submitted three fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications on behalf of his construction company, iDesignbuild LLC. The fraudulent applications contained false information about the number of employees and the company’s payroll. Barabash used the loans to buy two properties in Sparks Glencoe, Maryland, and a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette.
