MPD: Woman arrested for stabbing man to death in Southeast DC

Nearly two months after the incident, 54-year-old Cynthia Battle was arrested in North Carolina with help from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a woman in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred in Southeast D.C. earlier this year. 

According to a release from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers were called to the 1500 block of 16th Street just before midnight on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

When officers arrived, they found a man stabbed in his upper torso, according to a watch commander with MPD's Sixth District. The man, later identified as 59-year-old Raymond Johnson, died from his injuries.

Nearly two months later, 54-year-old Cynthia Battle was arrested in North Carolina, with help from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, in connection to the deadly stabbing .

Battle will be extradited from North Carolina. When she returns to D.C., she will be charged with second-degree murder while armed.
