A Coolidge High school student was robbed of his coat just outside the entrance of the school by young males who pulled up in a black Infiniti sedan, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said.
Around 10 a.m., D.C. police said they responded to the 6300 block of 5th Street NW after the sound of gunshots near Coolidge High School.
MPD released video of part of the incident:
Police said a student was walking to the school when "suspects pulled up in a vehicle." Shortly after, the driver got out and demanded the victim's property.
"The suspect got back into the suspect vehicle and that vehicle fled the scene," Carlos Heraud, MPD Fourth District Commander said.
When asked what property was stolen, Heraud said "at least his coat was taken."
Heraud says police are also looking into the shots fired incident but according to their investigation, the "shot was not directed at the school or at the victim."
"The suspect may have negligently discharged his firearm as he was returning to the suspect vehicle," Heraud said.
Initially, MPD told 7News that officers recovered shell casings and some damage to the building but during a news conference, Heraud said, "we haven't located any damage to the school and we haven't located any ballistic evidence either."
Officials said two other suspects were in the vehicle but only the driver got out.
The incident is under active investigation.
