A wildfire broke out along I-15 in Washington County, threatening homes in the area as crews work diligently to contain the blaze.

Crews said the fire, officially named Harmony Ridge Fire happened at approximately 5 p.m. along I-15, east of New Harmony on Thursday.

The fire, estimated to have burned between three to five acres of heavy brush, posed a significant threat to the area.

Multiple resources, including ground and air support, quickly responded to the scene.

According to officials, the fire's cause was determined to be human-caused and is currently under investigation. The fire was reported to be 70% contained as of 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The blaze threatened several primary and secondary homes, as well as communication towers in the area. In response, voluntary evacuations were initiated to ensure the safety of residents. Crews said no structures were threatened anymore.

While no closures have been put into place, firefighting efforts were ongoing. Two single-engine air tankers and one heavy helicopter were deployed to assist in battling the fire from the air, officials said.
