Eligible property owners in Washington County must file homestead applications by Dec. 31. Property owners who have had a change in ownership or occupancy and whose property is eligible for homestead classification should contact the county to file a homestead application on or before Dec. 31.

On a sunny weekend in June, a virus came to visit our house. While my husband lay quarantined in the guest bedroom, my son, the dog, and I headed north to Wild River State Park to walk in the woods and enjoy the St. Croix River. Charlie spent a couple of hours fishing for buffalo in the shallows, and I hit the trails with Molly the dog, was ambushed by a grouse, and nearly died of fright. For the record, Molly thought that was the best part of the day.

Stillwater inmate given 10-year sentence for stabbing corrections officer
A Stillwater prison inmate has received a 10-year term for stabbing a corrections officer nearly 3½ years ago. Adrian D. Bell, 35, was sentenced Monday in Washington County District Court after being convicted of first- second- and fourth-degree assault for stabbing a corrections sergeant with a 5½-inch metal shank during an altercation in June 2020.
