Wednesday night, the Waseca softball team, the No. 15 seed in the Section 2AA Tournament, made the trip to Belle Plaine to take on the No. 2 seeded Belle Plaine Tigers. Despite holding the high-octane Tigers to just two runs through the first four innings, the Bluejays couldn’t keep them quiet all night, eventually falling 7-0 to see their season come to a close.

Avery Barto started the game in the circle for Waseca and pitched six innings, allowing seven runs, only four of them earned, on nine hits. Belle Plaine limited Waseca to just four hits throughout the game with Barto earning two of them and Chloe Roemhildt picking up the other two runs.

The end of the season also marks the end of the line for the team’s three seniors, McKyla Hasselquist, Cameron Stagman and Alison Mumme. Stagman and Hasselquist started the game for Waseca at third and centerfield respectively.

The Tigers managed a single run in both the second and third innings but didn’t manage a big inning until the fifth when they put five more runs on the board to secure the 7-0 advantage.

The season for the Jays ends with a team record of 1-19 that saw many young players get opportunities throughout the year.
