    Waseca track and field does battle in PEM Winged Foot Invite

    Thursday evening, the Waseca track and field team traveled to Plainview-Elgin-Millville H.S. to compete in the PEM Winged Foot Invitational featuring six schools. The Bluejays boys team earned a second place finish in the meet with 147.5 points while the girls finished fourth with 93.

    The meet also featured the return to competition for Kaeden Johnson, a key member of the 2023 MSHSL State Championship track and field team, who had suffered a serious knee injury midway through the football season this year. Six month removed from having his ACL reconstructed, the senior got the opportunity to resume athletic activities and made an immediate impact.

    Highlights for the girls began in the 800 meter run where Maren Schimming posted a time of 2:34.13 to claim third. In the 1600m run, Callie Dufault finished first with a time of 5:50.10 and in the 3200m run, Stella Omtvedt claimed first with a PR time of 12:14.19.

    In the 100m hurdles, Brooklyn Flatau finished first with a time of 16.10 before she claimed fourth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 53.20.

    The 4x800m relay team of Dufault, Schimming, Omtvedt and Reese Rodriguez finished second with a time of 10:33.60.

    In the shot put, Kalea Sartori finished first with a top throw of 35 feet and 9.5 inches before she then earned fifth in discus with a top throw of 86’3”. Flatau continued her excellent day finishing third in the pole vault with a top clear of 7’6”, a mark matched by Schimming, before finishing second in the long jump with a leap of 15’2”.

    Boys highlights began in the 100m dash where Damarius Russell posted a PR time of 10.97. The 100m dash also featured the return of Kaeden Johnson who claimed third with a time of 11.22 in his first race since his knee injury suffered during the football season.

    Russell also claimed first in the 200m dash with a time of 22.70 while Brady Tlougan claimed third in the 400m dash with a time of 56.03. Isaac Feldkamp finished second in the 800m run before finishing first in the 1600m run with a time of 4:52.95.

    In the 3200m run, Colton Schroeder finished fourth with a time of 12:35.56. Carson Ohnstad posted a PR time of 44.75 in the 300m hurdles to claim first.

    Russell and Johnson teamed up with Jordan Johnston and Ohnstad to finish first in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 44.97. In the 4x400m relay race, the team of Ohnstad, Feldkamp, Tlougan and Wyatt Hager finished second with a time of 3:43.52.

    In the field, Ethan Stenzel finished first in shot put with a throw of 41’7” while Javon Rodney (40’4.5”), Brandyn Jascha (40’1”) and Andrew Robran (39’) finished third through fifth. In discus, Stenzel finished second with a PR throw of 138’2” while Hager (123’) and Rodney (117’9”) finished fourth and fifth.

    Hager finished third in the high jump with a clear of 5’4” and in the pole vault, William Mansfield finished first with a clear of 12’6” while Tristan Godwin finished fourth with a clear of 9’6”. In the long jump, Jonah Work finished fourth with a PR leap of 18’3.25”

    The Bluejays are scheduled to return to action Tuesday, Aril 30, when they travel to St. Charles for a meet which is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
