A man was arrested in Warrenton early Friday on an outstanding warrant for murder related to a Sunday homicide in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Law enforcement arrested Javier Torres Diaz, 42, at a Warrenton hotel after a collaborative investigation between the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Secret Service, according to a news release.

Torres Diaz was wanted in connection with the Sunday death of 44-year-old Juan Carlos Miranda-Perez.

“Detectives with our agency began working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department when they contacted us with information that Javier Torres Diaz was possibly staying in the Warrenton area,” the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office said in the release.

Torres Diaz is being held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center pending extradition to Charlotte.

According to the city of Charlotte, shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 100 block of Kingsford Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with an apparent stab wound, and a medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene, according to a city news release. The victim was later identified as Miranda-Perez.

The sheriff’s office did not provide a more precise address or location where Torres Diaz was arrested beyond a hotel in Warrenton.
