Joseph Eichler was a visionary. In the 20th century post-war America, he set out to develop residential suburbs that sported the beloved mid-century design throughout towns across California. At this time most MCM homes were too expensive for the average Joe, and he wanted to change that. His plan was to create thoughtfully designed and affordable homes for the masses.

According to Eichler For Sale , Eichners love for architecture stemmed from the Frank Lloyd Wright built home he first settled in when his family moved to California from New York. The modernist home is attributed to his desire to bring the unique designs of modernist homes to the general population. Throughout the mid-20th century, Joseph Eichler and his company built upwards of 11,000 homes in Northern California, many of which can still be seen today.

One such home was just put on the market and boasts all the Eichler characteristics homeowners, realtors, interior designers, and builders have grown to know and love. The home is located at 196 Los Cerros Ave in Walnut Creek's Rancho San Miguel neighborhood.

    Eichler All Over

The 1955 house, perched on a quiet street, has classic Eichler characteristics— post and beam construction sporting white wood ceilings and exposed beams have been painted to fit the airy feel of the rest of the house and merge seamlessly with the floor-to-ceiling glass that covers the majority of the back end of the house. If you're familiar with Eichler's designs you know that none of his homes would be complete without the concrete tile flooring. In this sun-drenched home, the concrete flooring mixed with the wood ceilings creates a magical mix of modernity and warmth.

White, Modern, and a Pop of Color

The clean white look continues throughout the home. In the kitchen, it is met with quartz waterfall countertops , custom wood cabinets with soft-close features, and high-tech stainless steel appliances as well as a gas cooktop and instant hot water. In the living room, the white is broken by the same dark forest green that covers the outside of the home. Bathrooms were recently updated with double sinks and floating toilets which just add to the MCM vibe of the space.

While the interior of the house is undoubtedly beautiful with its modern look and warm feel, the star of the show is the outdoor entertaining space. The floor-to-ceiling windows lead out to the gunite pool which was finished just last year. There are also garden beds, for gardens, fruit trees, a playhouse and more! If you're in the market for a home in the Walnut Creek area, this one is definitely a looker.

It’s already pending. Asking price $1,499,000 for 1748 sf., $858/sf. It’s on a corner of a somewhat busy street but nice neighborhood. Small lot. It was listed 9 days ago according to Trulia. To me those homes have a cheap-construction feel to them but for some reason they’re popular.

It’s okay but small. Everyone has different tastes. It is a large lot though. I would build another story on it which would defeat the original intent.
