WALNUT CREEK — A man was arrested downtown for attempted bank robbery before he had a chance to flee with any money. The suspect was still inside the bank when police responded to an alarm.
He is 45-year-old Douglas L. Crosby, a Stockton resident with previous arrests. Crosby was taken into custody by Walnut Creek officers during the afternoon of May 18.
An alarm was triggered at approximately 1:45 p.m. at U.S. Bank on North Main Street. No money was taken during the attempted robbery, which startled customers, but no one was injured.
In a prepared statement Walnut Creek police said. “Officers evacuated adjacent businesses, and they were able to contact employees inside the bank. The suspect Douglas Crosby was detained without incident.”
Crosby was booked on suspicion of robbery at the Martinez Detention Facility. He was later transferred to the West County Detention Facility in Richmond. He is ineligible for release on bond because he was on probation or parole at the time of his arrest.
Another downtown bank, PNC Bank on South California Boulevard, was robbed on May 6. This time the suspect ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Crosby has been arrested a dozen times since 2013 for such offenses as robbery, identity theft, petty theft, and vandalism. He has been freed on parole or probation several times.
