Wall, Mason, Garden City bring home golf state championships

The Wall, Mason and Garden City girls high school golf teams brought home state championships from their respective classes on Tuesday.

In Class 3A, Wall team finished the first day with a score of 332, and then followed with a 342 on on day two to clinch the state championship. The Hawks won by five strokes more than second-place Odessa Compass Academy.

Mason took home the Class 2A state championship scoring 334 both days and finishing with a total of 668. Sonora finished in eighth place with a total score of 833.

Garden City finished with a two-day score of 730 to win the Class A championship. Veribest finished second with a 772, which was 87 strokes clear of the third-place team.

Class 3A

Wall

Shay West finished with a total score of 149 to take home second overall. Landree Bartz shot a 171 over two days to finished in 14th, Emily Green finished in 16th with a 174, Morgan Pullig finished the tournament with 180 for 26th place and Abby McMillan finished with 216 for 49th place.

Class 2A

Mason

Ainsley Burns took home first overall with a two-day score of 149 and Avery Burns finished second with a score of 158. Raelynn Leifeste finished fifth, carding a 162, Sydney Hardin finished in 34th place with a score of 199 and O’Brien Underwood finished in 44th with a score of 209.

Sonora

Annika Galindo was the best scorer for Sonora after finishing in 19th with a score of 184. Madison Galindo was the next best finisher from Sonora after taking 33rd with a score of 198, Koda Davis finished 54th with a 225, Jolene Pasillas finished in 55th with a score of 227 and Rylie Thorp finished in 61st with a score of 233.   

Ozona

Claire Bean was the only qualifier from Ozona, and she finished in 22nd with a 187.

Class A

Garden City

Rylee Wood won second overall after winning a playoff with a score of 173. Briana Halfmann finished 10th with a score of 181, Keegan Balta and Kara Roberts each finished with a score of 189 to tie for 12th, and Shelby Braden finished 15th at 193.

Veribest

Olivia Abbot finished eighth, carding a 180 over two days. Ryley Buckner took 11th after shooting a 184, Alexis Salvato finished in 21st with 202, Callie Briley finished in 23rd with 207 and Jailynne Campbell in 28th with a score of 213.

Robert Lee

Kailey Freeman finished fifth with a two-day total of 176.
