Heavy rains from the predicted “Atmospheric River” have brought local waterways, lakes and estuaries to the point of overflow Tuesday. A quick drive around the area shows dramatic water level rise. Places like the Siletz river have turned to a torrent of brown as churning waters mix with mud as it heads to the Pacific ocean.

Four days of rain swamps central Oregon coast — and there’s much more on the way
More than 10 inches of rain have fallen in parts of south Lincoln County since Friday, sending river levels soaring and leaving ponds and puddles nearly everywhere. The National Weather Service said the “atmospheric river” that drenched the area since Friday will continue through Wednesday. Forecasters expect three to five more inches of rain along the central Oregon coast and up to 7-8 more inches in the Coast Range through Wednesday evening.

Holmes has been serving the underserved in the country for years and prior to going to Grenada, his team of volunteers went to Ecuador. He said when he first moved to Florence in 2000 he had been asked to help some of the students at Mapleton Schools and that grew to Yachats, Waldport and here in Florence. By happenstance he read an ad that was looking for western trained dentist to help children outside of the US.
