2023 Kauai Poke Festival with Sam Choy
June 3, 2023 from 4-7pm | Koloa Landing 2641 Poipu Road, Koloa. The Kauai Poke Festival is named top-5 food festivals in America by USA Today’s 10 Best in 2023!. The definition of Poke means to “cut into pieces.” The most common raw fish used in poke are Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Marlin, Aku (Skipjack Tuna), Hamachi (Yellowtail), Salmon, Taco (Octopus) are used. The basic poke recipe has shoyu (soy sauce), sesame oil, green onions and seaweed. The umami or savory marinade is what makes the poke dish! Then there are variations that can include: sriracha, mayonnaise, sweet onion, imitation crab, avocado, etc. The beauty of today’s poke recipes is that you are only limited by your own imagination! If you love Poke then this festival is a must attend event on Kauai!

Hawaii Menaced by Furious Wild Chickens
Ferocious feral chickens with "supercharged survival skills" have gotten out of control in Hawaii, The Atlantic reports. The island of Kauai in particular has become famous for its astronomical chicken population. The wild roaming roosters and hens roam the beaches, peck at landscaping, and crow all the livelong day. They've even become a local tourist attraction.
Statewide coffee conference to be held on Kauaʻi June 15-17
The statewide Hawaiʻi Coffee Association is perking with its upcoming annual conference June 15-17 at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort & Spa in Līhu‘e. The event will include a new Latte Art Throwdown, plus interactive workshops on cupping, roasting, green grading, brewing, grinding and field grafting. Also on tap are seminars on coffee fermentation and roast theory.
