HONOLULU (KHON2) — After receiving multiple reports of a siren sounding in the Waialua area of Oahu, state officials said there is no emergency.
According to Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, the siren sounded off to what appeared to be an electrical malfunction beginning at around 9:20 p.m.
At around midnight, the sirens went off again and the State Warning Point agency issued a “cancel” command.
HI-EMA said they have technicians doing a further investigation of the incident to determine the cause.
According to HI-EMA, there are more than 400 sirens in the State’s all-hazard outdoor siren system. With many of these sirens being in the areas of wildlife a most common source of siren malfunctions is an animal intrusion.
