Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

May 21 — 10:12 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident heard a possible prowler in his garage.

May 22 — 5:29 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of abdominal pain. 12:07 p.m. Child abuse was reported at a Cathlamet home. 4:02 p.m. A caller asked for assistance when his car key would not unlock his vehicle. 4:53 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911, then dispatch received a text stating it was an accidental dial. When dispatch called the number, no one answered. While en route to the caller’s location, a deputy saw a juvenile running in the direction of the school. The mother told dispatch that when she confronted the youth about the phone, she pushed the screen out of a window, jumped out and ran. She was barefoot and wearing shorts and a red sweatshirt. The deputy met with the family, but no law enforcement action was taken. 5:11 p.m. The PUD was notified when an Elochoman Valley resident reported a possible outage. It turned out the new homeowner had not changed the bill into his name. 5:41 p.m. A Middle Valley resident was concerned about the mental health of a juvenile in the home.

May 23 — 8:54 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having a coughing attack, high blood pressure, and respiratory issues. 10:44 a.m. A resident on North Welcome Slough said her cat was shot with a BB gun or a pellet gun. 1:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with low oxygen levels. 3:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with a broken leg. 5:28 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient to the hospital after she arrived at the clinic complaining of shortness of breath and an EKG showed signs of an abnormal heart beat. 6:09 p.m. Deputies helped search for a vehicle that rammed a car in Cowlitz County. The driver was wanted for possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, and assault. A witness said the vehicle was seen heading west from Bunker Hill. State patrol set up spikes at Pleasant Point Road and deputies searched the Beaver Creek area and Oak Point Road. A unit from Cowlitz found vehicle tracks that matched the suspect vehicle on Oak Point Road and turned around. The search was terminated at 8:20 p.m. 6:49 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a neighbor’s dog was on his property again. 7:26 p.m. A Puget Island resident said a neighbor’s dog was loose and out of control.

May 24 — 9:52 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient with an abnormal EKG to the hospital. 10:19 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet man. 12:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy aided a Puget Island resident who briefly lost consciousness. 4:38 p.m. A Rosedale resident asked for assistance with a volatile juvenile. The youth was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. 5 p.m. A caller reported a stray dog without a collar in Rosburg. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was notified. At 5:46 p.m., the caller said he was able to locate the owner. 6:35 p.m. A caller said that boaters in unmarked boats in Deep River were not obeying the no wake zone. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the vessels. 11:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy aided a Rosedale youth who took sleeping medication.

May 25 — 12:26 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a juvenile left the home on foot and would not return. At 1:35 a.m., the caller said the youth contacted him and wanted to come home. A deputy provided information on resources to the family. 7:59 a.m. A caller complained about a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 11:56 a.m. A caller reported a dispute involving a shared well. 4:14 p.m. An erratic driver was reported to be traveling on a Puget Island road. 5:44 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911, then did it again at 5:47 p.m. 8:28 p.m. An inmate destroyed property in the county jail.

May 26 — 9:38 a.m. A resident on East Valley Road complained about a neighbor’s dogs constantly roaming free. A deputy spoke with the owner. 9:51 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that he was being harassed by his neighbor. 12:12 p.m. A caller said a trailer fell off a truck and was blocking one lane of SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 4:14 p.m. Car keys were found in the auditor’s office. 7:05 p.m. A caller reported an injured owl on the side of SR 4 on the east side of KM. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the owl.

May 27 — 4:36 a.m. A Puget Island resident said he was having a mental break down. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 10:59 p.m. Someone camping at the marina complained about the noise at the brewery.

May 28 — 2:06 a.m. A structure fire involving a garage and deck was reported on the 1300 block of Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. All 10 people in the home were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported at that time. The Grays River Fire Department, the Skamokawa Fire Department, the District 4 Fire Department, the Naselle Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. At 2:47 a.m., the house was reported to be fully engulfed. Red Cross was notified and the Department of Natural Resources was contacted. 1:36 p.m. A black calf was found loose on Brooks Slough. Dispatch called possible owners. A responsible party said he would be there in 10 minutes. 4 p.m. A person at a campground in Grays River stopped breathing after multiple seizures. Deputies, an officer from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and a Naselle ambulance responded. The person was later said to be awake and alert. 4:47 p.m. A Rosedale resident said a neighbor was banging on his carport, and that there were ongoing problems between them.
