HERE WE GO AGAIN--It seems like yesterday that I said we were beginning the month of May yet, in the blink of an eye, I’m saying “Welcome to June!” I can only hope this month slows down a bit as I’m already behind on all the things I was going to do during the “slow times” at the beginning of this year!

NICE STREAK--Memorial weekend was pretty decent and at least it wasn’t pouring down rain! We had some morning cloudiness and some breezy conditions, but for those of you working in your yards over the weekend, this was the perfect weather for that. We’re supposed to have moderate temps all week long, so we’ll see how that goes, but with the various things happening this coming weekend, we hope it stays decent.

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from June 1-7 are Becca Keilwitz, Gary Emery, Annika Vik, Terry Vik, Gale Luthi, Tracy Cleveland, Derrick Bardsley, Tylor Russell, Marty Florek, Michael Wegdahl, Chloe Cothren, Tori Wegdahl, Blain Fritzie, Justin Elfers, Gwyn Heriford, Shannon Cochran, Brian Good and Scott Ahrndt.

Those celebrating anniversaries this coming week are Mr. and Mrs. Skip Nortrup, Scott Kennedy and Eva Snow and Robert and Karla Kyle. Here’s wishing you all the best celebrations this coming week.

BUSY TIMES--Every Thursday the folks serving the Community Breakfast will be at the Skamokawa Grange Hall from 10 a.m., to noon, so you’re all invited to join them.

The Elochoman Marina will be the place to be for the second Farmers Market of the year this Friday, from 3 to 6. Remember, this event takes place every Friday until September first.

The “Cruizin to the Fair” Car Show is this Saturday, June 3, so check out all the cars at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds, located just off the left of East Valley Road after leaving SR 4. It should be a fun day of cool cars and hot rods and good food and fun; enjoy!

REDMEN HALL--While you’re down this way for the car show, I hope you’ll make a stop at our historic Redmen Hall and check out the book and gift shop there as well as their current display in the River Life Interpretive Center on the second floor. The hall is open from noon to 4 on weekends.

NEXT FRIDAY--Just a little heads up as our WA-KI-HI seniors will graduate next Friday evening, June 9. Those young lives are about to take on a whole new world as they head out to college or a job or both, or some other endeavor, so we want to say congratulations to all of them as they tackle their dreams. Every year I say the same thing though, as if you’re interviewing for a job, just remember, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression,” so be sure that you make it a good one!

NEXT SATURDAY--The monthly Flea Market at the fairgrounds will be held June 10 from 9-3, so head this way and pick up some treasures. There are lots of good things to be had for next to nothing, and I heard there may be some things that are free.

SONS OF NORWAY BINGO--On the second Saturday of each month, the members of the Sons of Norway hold bingo at the Norse Hall on Puget Island. The action takes place in the lower part of the building and doors will be open at 5:30 for the games to being at 6 p.m. If you have any questions, you can contact Jan at 360-431-1705.

CLASS OF 1957--A few members of the WHS Class of 57 met at the Duck Inn this past Thursday, and beings I’m the sister of one of them, (Frank Pedersen), Jean Olson Horman was nice enough to invite me to join them. Also there was Ron Baker and his son, Billie Jo (Cothren) and her hubby, Gordie, Gene and Karen Healy and Frank's wife, Carolyn.

I always enjoy chatting with the upper classmen and hearing stories of their school years and how things were in the areas where they lived as things have changed quite a bit since the old Island, Skamokawa and Cathlamet days!

SYMPATHIES--I had already turned my news in last week prior to hearing of the passing of Robert (Bobby) Wegdahl and having just seen him recently, I was certainly taken aback by this sad news. I want to send my sincerest condolences to all the members of his family. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on June 11 at the Duck Inn. A full obituary should be out this week.

I also saw where Geraldine “Gerry” Parker had passed away in Centralia on the same day as Bobby and we want to send our regards to her family as well. These two lived on Puget Island when I lived there and it doesn’t matter that they moved elsewhere later on, as they’ll always be Islanders to me! May they rest in peace.

THEY NEED ITEMS--The Puget Island Fire Dept. is still looking for items that you’d be willing to donate to them for the upcoming “Puget Island Garage and Yard Sale” event that’s taking place towards the end of June, so if you could help them out, that would be great. The group will be selling items on June 23 and 24 only, so while PIGYS actually lasts for three days, you’ve only got two days to check their sale out at the fire house located on SR 409. If you have items but no way to deliver them, then arrangements can be made to have them picked up, and if you’re going by there and want to drop them off at the station, you can call and make sure someone is there to pick them up. So, either way, please contact Sherrill, 360-951-3985 or Liz, 360-200-2247 and they will help you.
