Construction back underway on La. Highway 1 Intracoastal Bridge
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Construction of the Louisiana Highway One Intracoastal Bridge has been a long process. It was delayed back in early 2023 due to unexpected settlement issues. Fast forward to today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) issued an announcement that construction is back underway.

Family speaks out after two arrests made in months long murder investigation
ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in connection to a drive-by interstate murder in Prairieville back in March. Nearly six months after investigators found Chakerus “CJ” Hamilton Jr. shot in his car on the side of the interstate in Ascension Parish, the Sheriff’s Office took 18-year-old Aniyah Williams and 19-year-old Quinndarius Dabney into custody.

Hotel tax proposed to support first responders in Denham Springs
DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) - Lieutenant Keith Scoby and the Denham Springs Police Department are getting creative to retain and recruit more first responders. “We’re trying to catch up with surrounding agencies that offer more competitive pay scales and that’s simply what we’re trying to do,” explained Scoby. “We have to think outside the means of a sales tax and a property tax and this was the solution we came up with.”

I-TEAM: Skimmers across Louisiana swipe thousands in federal EBT benefits
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) confirms to the WAFB I-TEAM that several skimming incidents across Louisiana have resulted in the recent theft of approximately $125,000 in federal benefits from EBT cards. The agency has been working with multiple law enforcement agencies and state and federal officials to stop the problem and prevent any future theft.
Repairs continue for USS KIDD in Houma; museum still open in BR
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Folks with the USS KIDD released an update on the ship’s ongoing repairs in Houma. According to Executive Director Parks Stephenson, repairs to the ship should be finished around January, but it will not be able to return to Baton Rouge until the river rises high enough in the April-to-June timeframe.
Port Allen woman arrested for home invasion, deputies say
PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) - A Port Allen woman has been arrested following a home invasion on Sunday, August 18, according to the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. Holly Leonard, 37, of Port Allen, is charged with home invasion, domestic abuse (child endangerment), and criminal damage to property, deputies said.

Over the following decades, Channel 9 has created the number one news organization in south Louisiana, covering local, state, and regional news. Today, WAFB brings its viewers 25 hours of news programming each week. Presently, Louisiana's News Channel is the only network station in the market to air a complete rebroadcast of every locally produced newscast, plus a live weekend noon news product on our second cable station, Cable Channel 9.
