When does the Volusia County Public School 2023 school year end? When are graduations?

Ask any student, parent or teacher in Florida: School years seem to get longer every year. Especially when pandemics and tropical storms get in the way.

But now, finally, it's less than a week away until the final bell rings for Volusia County public schools and its more than 61,000 students.

As these final days of school approach and summer vacation looms in the near distance, here's what you need to know about the last day of school for your student.

When is the last day of school?

The last day for every Volusia County Public School school is Friday, June 2. It will be an early-release day and students will leave school approximately an hour early. (Teachers won't get to leave until Tuesday, June 6.)

When do seniors graduate?

Here's the schedule for graduation. All ceremonies will be held at the Ocean Center, 101 N Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach.

Does Volusia County offer summer school?

There are a variety of programs available for elementary, middle, and high school students. Families should have been notified in April if their child meets the eligibility requirements.

Elementary programs include reading camps, English language skills, Title I programs, a migrant program and a voluntary pre-k program. Classes run from 8 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. July 5 to July 27, except for Title I SEA Lab (8 - 11 a.m. June 12 to June 22) and VPK (7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. June 12 - Aug. 3).

Secondary programs include an algebra boot camp, civics and STEM, driver education, advances on biology class and courses for students who failed language arts, math, science, and/or social studies, and more. Schedules for secondary programs are varied, you can see the schedule here.

Breaks to look out for in the 2023-2024 school year:

  • Schools are closed on Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day.
  • Schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 22 for a Teacher Professional Development Day.
  • Schools are closed on Monday, Sept. 25 in observance of Yom Kippur.
  • There are no classes on Monday, Oct. 16 for a teacher planning day.
  • There are no classes on Friday, Nov. 10 for Veterans Day.
  • Thanksgiving break is Monday, Nov. 20 - Friday, Nov. 24.
  • November 20 and 21 will be used as makeup days for inclement weather if needed.
  • Winter break is from Monday, Dec. 18 through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. Classes resume Jan. 3.
  • Schools are closed on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
  • Schools are closed on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, in observance of Presidents' Day.
  • Spring Break is from Monday, March 25 - Friday, March 29, 2024. Classes resume Apr. 1.
  • Schools are closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, in observance of Memorial Day.
  • The last day of the 2023-2024 school year is May 31, 2024.
