Billings, Mont. — Family, tribal members and community members gathered at the Billings airport as Crow Nation welcomed Navy Quartermaster Jadyss Hugs home after more than 300 days aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. The arrivals terminal turned into a celebration with drumbeat, song and cheers as people welcomed Hugs back to Crow Country. The gathering marked a reunion for her family and a moment of recognition for her military service. Many people throughout the group, people give blessings, wishes and prayers for a safe return," Shawn Real Bird said. For Hugs’ younger siblings, the homecoming also meant getting their sister back after a long time apart."I was happy because she's been gone for a long time," one of Jadyss Hugs’ younger siblings said. Another said she was proud of her military sister. The homecoming gave the wider Crow community a chance to honor Hugs’ service and celebrate her return.

Public comment extended for data center water supply near Broadview
CORRECTION ON OCT. 23 AT 4:44 p.m. — The estimated after-construction water consumption number has been updated from 200,000 to 20,000. BROADVIEW, Mont. — The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is extending their request for public comment through Nov. 6 for a proposed well for the Quantica Big Sky Campus data center near Broadview. According to the DEQ website , the well will provide around 150,000 gallons of water per day during construction, and 20,000 gallons per day after construction. In addition to construction and drinking water, the well may also be used to provide water for cooling the high-density servers. The well itself will target the Madison aquifer, which is about 1,000 feet deeper than the Eagle Sandstone aquifer, which provides most of the nearby water supplies. To submit public comments on the proposed well and environmental review, visit the Montana Department of Environmental Quality website . A variety of other regulations may apply to data centers including, but not limited to, additional water quality engineering review, air quality, water rights, and zoning. Additional permit applications would trigger additional opportunities for public comment.
